Hilary & Jarvis

November 2, 2024 · Kerr Lake, NC

Please join Hilary and Jarvis on November 2, 2024 as we celebrate our wedding at Kerr Lake, North Carolina.

The Rundown

We’re finally doing it! Years in the making, we’re at long last ready to give our epic rom-com the happy ending it deserves. We’re getting married at the house where Jarvis grew up on Kerr Lake NC. It’s an outdoor wedding and reception, and it’s all held in the same location.

As much as we wish we could invite all the people that mean a lot to us, unfortunately our budget and location binds us to a max number. So because of that we are not extending the invite to kiddos. (Babies are welcome, they don’t need chairs, booze or whole hog roasts) Yes, our kids will be there whether they like it or not. Otherwise we are trying to keep this a grownup’s affair. We are so sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. If you have absolutely no options for childcare please don’t hesitate to contact us directly, we will do our best to accommodate where we can.

Traditional NC whole hog or roast chicken barbecue will be served for dinner, and yes, there will be beer and wine offered from a mobile bar. Put those dancing shoes on, we’ll have a DJ and dance floor. And if you’re wondering what all of this is going to look like, Hil says “it’s Boho meets outdoorsy whimsical”, whatever that means.

What to Wear

The weather this time of year in North Carolina is a bit temperamental. It might be humid with highs in the 80s, it might be crisp with lows into the 30s. It might even rain, so pack an umbrella and dress shoes you don’t mind getting a little muddy. Don’t worry, we have tents, you won’t be sitting in the weather. Typically, the highs are mid 60s and the lows in the high 40s. Basically, check the weather before you come.

In regards to attire, think what one would wear to the Kentucky Derby, or visiting the royals at Balmoral.

LADIES: This is an outdoor wedding, so stiletto heels will be a poor decision. Boots and a dress? Sure. Cocktail attire? Absolutely. Bring a shawl or anything to help keep you warm in case it gets chilly. Puffy jackets and jeans? No ladies, you know you can do better than that.

GENTLEMEN: Class it up, guys. No, you can’t roll up in jeans and a t-shirt. Got a suit? Great, wear it. Khakis and a blazer? “Slay,” as our ‘tween daughter would say. Wear a pair of nice shoes that can handle a little weather or dirt. The groom will be in an olive green tweed suit. So if you own an olive green tweed suit, DO NOT wear that.

Seriously …

Please read over all the details of this website. For those flying in, please check out all the details under the location tab for lodging and getting around.

If you haven’t RSVP’d, please do so on this site. And if you really want us to like you, please visit our registry as well.

Raleigh friends, you may want to look into lodging in the area too. This wedding is taking place an hour’s drive away. That’s a long drive home if you’ve had a few drinks and are feeling - as my mom puts it - ‘very relaxed’.

Arrival at the Lake

Friday, November 1st

We will be driving from Raleigh to the lake house early on Friday, November 1st. We’re doing all the decorating ourselves, so we’ll be busy. If you want to help, awesome, let us know! For our out-of-town guests, use this day to get in, get a car, and get to where you’re staying near the lake. Try to get there before dark, there are no street lights in the country, and you’re going to want to have daylight to orient yourselves in this strange, rural land.

Wedding Day

Saturday, November 2

Wedding Ceremony

3:00pm
Rooker House, lake side

Followed by Reception

This is the big day! And we’re so excited to host all of you at Jarvis’s childhood home.

Signs will lead you to the correct driveway, and you’ll be directed to park in the large pasture that’s surrounded by a split rail fence.

Proceed on foot down the driveway toward the house. Lights will guide you.

Find your seat where the ceremony will take place lakeside, behind the house.

After the ceremony, enjoy a drink or two as we snap some photos.

We’ll rejoin all of you for the big celebration, to be held in the large tent in the front yard. You will be informed when to get dinner.

The bride and groom will party with you until the end, and then will retire for the night there at the lake house.

Click the ‘Location’ tab above for a map and address to the lake house.

Be advised, there is no wifi nor cell signal at the lake. You’ll have to rely on the interaction with fellow human beings for entertainment.

The Day After

Sunday, November 3

We’ll be starting the day bright and early because toddlers don’t believe in sleeping in late. We’ll have some things to wrap up at the lake, but will eventually make our way back down to our place in Raleigh (technically Cary, a suburb of Raleigh). If you’re visiting from out of town, consider staying a few days more so we all can catch up. I’ve listed our address below, there’s plenty of nearby lodging options.
